WORK HARD, PLAY HARDER
Despite only two seasons wearing Garnet and Gold, G Sam Cassell had a prolific career in Tallahassee. A junior transfer from San Jacinto College, Cassell averaged a team-best 18.4 points per game and finished second with 117 assists and 56 steals in the 1991-92 season. In the 1992 NCAA Tournament, with star G Charlie Ward missing two games with a shoulder injury, Cassell powered the Seminoles with 61 points over three games. Known for his confidence and positive attitude, Cassell was an inspiration to his teammates. “I like to just go out, play hard and have fun,” he said. “You gotta have fun. If you don’t, then you shouldn’t play.” Coach Pat Kennedy acknowledged that Cassell balanced fun with dominant play: “Sam is a threat every time he’s got the ball. He’s the best one-on-one player I’ve ever had.”
