HOLY COWENS!
Date: 1960s to 1970s
Left-handed center Dave Cowens brought offensive firepower to the Seminoles in the late 1960s. The native of Newport, Kentucky, led the team in scoring and rebounding in each of his three seasons on the squad. Averaging 18.8 points per game as a sophomore, Cowens steered FSU to the 1968 NCAA Tournament, the first tournament appearance in program history. His scoring only improved in the 1968-69 season, when Cowens reached double-digit points in 25 games played — and recorded a double-double in 24 of them. In his final career game, Cowens poured in 30 points against Miami, becoming the only Seminole with a 30-point game in the 1969-70 campaign. Cowens’ 1,479 career points remains in the top 15 in program history.
