MADE WITH SHADES
The main driver behind FSU’s miraculous run to the 1972 NCAA Championship was junior G Ron King. A product of Louisville, Kentucky, King led the Noles with 17.9 points in the 1971-72 season before guiding the team deep into the tournament. King led the team with 22-point outbursts in wins over Kentucky in the Elite Eight and North Carolina in the Final Four, advancing FSU to the first national title game in program history. Though FSU came up short against dynastic UCLA, King led all scorers — including Bruin stars Bill Walton and Keith (later Jamaal) Wilkes — with 27 points. King penned this note to Bill Bolton, a Seminole assistant and recruiter who joined the program in 1970, the same year King made the varsity squad.
