WELCOME TO THE POSTSEASON
With nothing but zeros on the game clock, the No. 14 Seminoles celebrated their 4-1 victory over Jacksonville in the first round of the 2000 NCAA Tournament, the first NCAA Tournament match and win in program history. After a scoreless first half, M Amber Tollefson got the Noles on the board in the 49th minute, followed by goals from fellow freshmen M Emma Breland and D Kristin Boyce. Veteran F Cindy Schofield netted the final score in the 83rd minute to put the game fully out of reach. Breland added two assists to her stat line, giving her 31 points on the season for a new program record (since broken). “It was exciting and very nervous in (our) first NCAA,” she said. “We didn’t really know what to expect. We tried to get out there and do our best.” FSU ultimately advanced to the Sweet 16, falling to No. 5 Clemson. That season marked the first of 26 consecutive postseason bids for the Noles.
