UNITED FRONT
M Sarah Deacon helped the Seminoles secure their fourth straight win and sixth shutout of the 1999 season with a 3-0 victory over Wright State. A three-year member of the squad, Deacon was enjoying her most productive offensive campaign with five points (two goals, one assist) and 21 shots. The Seminoles bounced back that season under new head coach Patrick Baker, winning nine games for the first time since 1996. “It is important to know where you’re coming from and where you’re truly at and where you’re trying to get to,” said Baker. “We have been preaching about team unity off the field. … I told them, ‘We’re going to win as a team. We have to respect one another as a team. We have to respect one another on and off the field. And we have to be unified.'” Taking the message to heart, Baker’s teams won at least 12 games each season over the next five years.
