THE 1971-72 RUN THAT ECHOS
The 1971-72 Seminoles finished 27-6 and carved out the greatest season to date in program history, advancing all the way to the National Championship Game. Along the way, they knocked off Eastern Kentucky, Minnesota, Kentucky and North Carolina in a remarkable tournament run that brought FSU into the national spotlight. G Ron King powered the offense with his scoring touch and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team, while teammates like C/F Reggie Royals, C Lawrence McCray, G Greg Samuel, F Ron Harris, G Otis Cole and F Rowland Garrett delivered vital contributions on both ends of the court. At the helm, Hugh Durham guided the team with sharp leadership in what became the signature season of his 12-year tenure at FSU. The 1971-72 campaign ended just short of a title, but it highlighted FSU’s place on the national stage and remains one of the proudest chapters in school history.
