RETURNING TO PROMINENCE
Pat Kennedy arrived ahead of the 1986-87 season ready to hit the ground running after winning two Coach of the Year awards while coaching Iona. By 1988, the Seminoles were back in good standing in the Metro Conference. Leading the program through the transition to the ACC in the 1991-92 season, he immediately made a mark by setting then-records for road wins (six) and total ACC wins (11) for a first-year coach. Kennedy also won the ACC Coach of the Year Award after the Seminoles finished second in the conference standings. Seven of Kennedy’s 11 FSU teams recorded 19 or more wins, and he reached the 20-win plateau five times. By the time he left Tallahassee, Kennedy had amassed 202 wins and five NCAA Tournament berths. He was elected to the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017.
