MAN OF STEAL
Date: 1990s
With quick reflexes and superb ball handling skills, G Charlie Ward often picked the pockets of opposing players. He led the team with 71 steals in 1990-91 and 75 steals in 1991-92 — setting freshman and sophomore records, respectively. Ward had nine swipes in a game against South Carolina in 1991, tying another program record, while his 238 career steals were the most by any Seminole by the time he left Tallahassee. “I call it anticipating. I’m like a defensive back in football, anticipating where the ball is going,” said Ward, also a member of the Seminole football team. Ward collected 20 steals over six NCAA Tournament games.
