MINDING HIS MANNERS
Date: 1980s to 1990s
A four-year forward from Daytona Beach, Michael Polite was a member of three NCAA Tournament teams with the Seminoles. In his senior season of 1990-91, FSU won their first tournament game in 11 years. Polite chipped in 11 points and six rebounds as No. 7 FSU downed No. 10 USC in the first round, 75-72. He collected nine more rebounds in the second-round loss to No. 2 Indiana. With a 6-foot-7 frame and ball-hawking hunger, Polite led the team with 273 rebounds that season. Ending his career with 673 rebounds and 1,070 points, Polite joined the rare company of FSU’s 500-rebound, 1,000-point club.
