KENNEDY’S CINDERELLA SEMINOLES
Going into the 1992-93 season, coach Pat Kennedy and the Seminoles were looking to build off the success of their Sweet 16 run in the previous campaign. With four future NBA players on the roster (G Sam Cassell, F Doug Edwards, G Bob Sura and G Charlie Ward), the Seminoles were destined for greatness. The regular season featured riveting wins over the ranked Massachusetts, Duke and Georgia Tech en route to a second-place finish in the ACC. FSU’s efforts were rewarded with a No. 3 seed in the Southeast Region of the NCAA Tournament. Easy wins came over No. 14 Evansville and No. 11 Tulane in the first two rounds, besting both schools by double digits. An exhilarating 81-78 overtime win over No. 7 Western Kentucky sent FSU to their second Elite Eight berth in program history. Though they would fall in that round, this particular Seminole team brought the program to national prominence.
