Date: 1997 Season
Talented right fielder J.D. Drew earned the Golden Spikes Award from USA Baseball in 1997 in recognition of his incredible season with the Seminoles. Drew became the first player in DI history to join the 30-30 club, recording 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases. The consensus All-American reached the benchmark in May 1997 in a 16-2 win over UCF at home. “Once you start reading stuff, you really set it to be one of your goals. I thought that would be neat,” Drew said of his accomplishment. Remembered fondly in Seminole baseball lore, Drew was inducted into the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003.
