A VALIANT EFFORT
In coach Mike Martin’s 20th season at the helm, the Seminoles made a run to the 1999 College World Series (CWS). Led by junior third baseman Marshall McDougall, FSU notched a 46-10 regular season record before appearing in the Tallahassee Regional and Super Regional. The team went undefeated in both competitions to earn a CWS berth. The Noles marched through the field, meeting No. 1 Miami in the National Championship game before narrowly falling, 6-5. Though the Seminoles were unable to capture the ultimate victory, they did not go home empty-handed. McDougall was named the College World Series Most Outstanding Player. Five Seminoles, including McDougall, OF Matt Diaz, C Jeremiah Klosterman, IF Sam Scott and P Chris Chavez, were named to the College World Series All-Tournament Team. Finally, the team took home this runner-up trophy.
