FINALLY IN THE BIG GAME
Date: 1970 Season
For the first time in program history, the FSU baseball team reached the College World Series (CWS) championship game during the 1970 season. The Seminoles met the USC Trojans in the CWS final, going neck-and-neck the entire game. Right fielder Tom Porter scored FSU’s lone run in the top of the 5th inning before Southern California evened the score in 7th. All tied up after nine, the marathon game lasted six extra innings. USC defeated FSU, 2-1, on a bases-loaded infield single in the 15th inning to end FSU’s fantastic run. The Seminoles received this trophy in recognition of their runner-up finish, the best in program history to that point.
