CARRYING ON THE TRADITION
Taking over a powerhouse program comes with a lot of expectations, but Brian Pensky was prepared. The former Tennessee head coach arrived in Tallahassee in 2022 with championship aspirations and an understanding of the Seminole soccer legacy. “Florida State’s soccer program is regarded as one of if not the best in the country and rightfully so,” Pensky said. “The opportunity to be a part of this great program with the remarkable tradition is an honor.” Pensky brought in talent from the transfer portal, including F Onyi Echegini and M/F Taylor Huff, and recruited future stars such as F Jordynn Dudley. In his first season on the sidelines, Pensky led the Noles to the 2022 College Cup Final Four and a No. 3 ranking in the final United Soccer Coaches poll. Then, in the 2023 campaign, the Seminoles made program history by capturing their fourth national title. His team had nothing but praise during the championship celebration. “What we’ve built here is such a credit to Brian. He will not say but it is and he will continue to build this program,” said F Beata Olsson. Added M Leilanni Nesbeth: “Don’t be humble. You’re a great coach, man.”
