Date: 1981 Season
The United States Baseball Federation presented OF Mike Fuentes this Golden Field Award as the most outstanding amateur baseball player in the nation. Earning the nickname “Tito,” Fuentes became one of the first Seminoles with a .400 season batting average when he hit .408 while leading FSU into the 1980 College World Series. Appearing in over 200 games for the Seminoles, Fuentes spent all four of his college seasons in Tallahassee. Fuentes made his Major League debut in 1983, playing two seasons with the Montreal Expos. He was inducted into FSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1987 and inducted into College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2023.
