STRIKE THE POSE
Date: September 14, 2013
As the Marching Chiefs play the War Chant, Chief Osceola carries a feathered spear while riding Renegade, an Appaloosa horse, to the center of Doak Campbell Stadium. At every home game since September 1978, Chief Osceola hurls the burning spear into the ground, signifying the imminent start of the game. One of the most beloved icons of FSU lore, Chief Osceola and Renegade are seen here just before planting the spear, waiting on the roar of a raucous Seminole crowd. On this day in September 2013, Florida State defeated Nevada, 62-7, continuing a winning streak that would result in a third National Championship victory come January 2014.
