DEFENSE WOVE A COTTON BOWL WIN
Date: January 1, 1992
Rain turned the Mobil Cotton Bowl on January 1, 1992, into a defensive struggle in Dallas. No. 5 FSU defeated No. 9 Texas A&M, 10-2, despite the teams combining for 13 turnovers. The Seminole defense held the Aggies to 180 yards total, stopped all 12 third-down attempts and did not allow an offensive score. QB Casey Weldon rallied the Noles with a four-yard touchdown run, RB Sean Jackson rushed for 119 yards and K Gerry Thomas sealed the victory with a late field goal. The win completed an 11-2 season and tied a national record with FSU’s seventh consecutive bowl victory.
