DANNY’S FOURTH-DOWN FIESTA

A goal-line takeaway swung the 1988 Sunkist Fiesta Bowl in FSU’s favor. Trailing No. 5 Nebraska, 28-24, the No. 3 Seminoles recovered a fumble at their own three-yard line before QB Danny McManus directed a 97-yard drive. On fourth-and-goal, McManus found WR Ronald Lewis for a 15-yard touchdown with 3:07 remaining, lifting the Noles to a 31-28 victory and the Fiesta Bowl crown. McManus passed for 375 yards and three touchdowns as FSU erased an early 14-0 deficit, completed an 11-1 season and earned the No. 2 final ranking in the AP poll.
