Versatile catcher Terry Kennedy earned The Sporting News 1977 National Player of the Year award. Kennedy became the first Seminole to win a player of the year award in program history. The First-Team All-American recorded 55 hits, 33 runs and eight home runs in the 1977 season, leading the team to its first Metro Conference championship. Kennedy was drafted sixth overall by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1978 MLB Draft, enjoying an illustrious 14-year professional career and two appearances in the World Series. The backstop was inducted in the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1982 as well as the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2021.
