FIRST TIME ACC CHAMPS
Date: 1995 Season
FSU baseball joined the ACC ahead of the 1992 season and earned their first trip to the conference’s championship in 1995. The team defeated Virginia, North Carolina and Clemson to lock up a rematch with Clemson in the ACC Championship series. The Tigers had outscored opponents 43-11 to that point, but facing elimination, the Seminoles were not ones to back down from a challenge. Pitchers Chuck Howell and Jonathan Johnson stymied the Tiger offense over the two-game series. The Seminoles won both games by scores of 12-2 and 8-2, securing the school’s first ACC Championship and earning this trophy. Johnson was named the tournament MVP.
