WELCOME BACK, WOODY
Date: 1975 Season
In 1975, Woody Woodward took over as skipper of the FSU baseball team. Woodward knew Tallahassee well, playing for the Seminoles himself in 1962 and 1963. Coach Woodward’s team won this trophy in recognition of a district championship, earning a berth in the 1975 College World Series. Woodward remained the head baseball coach through the 1978 season, recording a 170-57 career record and becoming one of the winningest coaches in program history. Woodward maintained close ties with Florida State, reportedly donating $3,000 for the construction of stadium lights for night baseball.
