KING OF THE COURT
G Ron King (No. 33), a 6-foot-4 junior swingman from Louisville, Kentucky, battled Bill Walton under the basket during the 1972 National Championship Game. King poured in 27 points in the title game and earned All-Tournament team honors alongside Walton. After the game, King reflected, “I’m not mad. We lost to number one, and we’re proud that we showed something.” A dynamic scorer, King averaged 19.6 points per game in his career and was recognized as a Helms Foundation First-Team All-American in 1972, The Sporting News Third-Team All-American in 1972 and an Associated Press Honorable Mention in 1971. Inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 1988, King’s promising senior season in 1972-73 was cut short by a broken leg after six games, but his legacy as one of the program’s greatest remained secure.
