C Lawrence McCray (No. 44) rose up for defensive stops throughout FSU’s run to the 1972 National Championship Game. Beginning his career that same season, McCray became a steady presence in the Seminole frontcourt. Over three years in Tallahassee, he averaged 13 points and nine rebounds per game, giving FSU consistent scoring inside and strong work on the boards. Solid defensively, McCray’s size and effort made him a reliable two-way contributor who helped set the tone during one of the most successful eras in program history.
