YOU GOTTA START SOMEWHERE
Date: 2018 Season
Mike Martin received plenty of awards and accolades after his record-breaking 1,976th win, including this garnet Louisville Slugger. Long before Martin became the winningest coach in college baseball history, he had to get his first victory. The Seminoles traveled to Miami to open the 1980 season, losing the first two games of the series. But in the third game on February 24, FSU enjoyed some comeback magic. After trailing by as many as six runs, RF Mike Yastrzemski — the son of the Boston Red Sox legend — blasted a three-run homer in the 9th inning to lift FSU to a 9-8 win. The thrilling victory marked the first of Martin’s 2,029 career wins.
