WINSTON, THE COMPETITOR
Date: 2013 Season
In 2013, Jameis Winston became the third Nole to win the Davey O’Brien Award as the nation’s top quarterback. He was also only the second freshman in college football history to win the trophy, after Johnny Manziel. “[Winston’s] a competitor,” said coach Jimbo Fisher after Winston led FSU to a 37-7 rout over rival Florida that season. “Nothing fazes that guy. He thrives on it. … let me tell you something, the guy’s ability to learn and process information is what puts him over the top. He understands what he is doing all of the time.” The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Winston with the No. 1 pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, making him the first Seminole drafted first overall.
