THE WHOLE PACKAGE
Date: 1992 Season
According to coach Bobby Bowden, Marvin Jones Sr. “stacks up with any [linebacker] I’ve ever seen, not only at Florida State but those we’ve played against. He’s got the whole package.” That high praise came after Jones Sr. won the 1992 Butkus Award as the best linebacker in college football. He led FSU with 111 tackles that season, along with seven tackles for loss and three sacks. He also won the Lombardi Award as the nation’s best lineman and finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting. Following his stellar campaign, the New York Jets selected Jones Sr. with the No. 4 pick of the 1993 NFL Draft. He spent his entire 10-season career in New York.
