UNTIL THE FINAL WHISTLE
Pressure defined FSU’s performance at the 2006 Women’s College Cup, where the fifth-ranked Seminoles pushed top-seeded Notre Dame to the final minutes of a 2-1 semifinal loss in Cary, North Carolina. After falling behind by two goals late in the first half, FSU surged after the break, outshooting the Irish and forcing multiple near-equalizing chances. M India Trotter’s second-half goal cut the deficit in half, while goalkeeper Ali Mims recorded seven saves to keep the match within reach. “We’re fighting for our lives out there,” Trotter said. “I think we had chances and that’s all you can ask for.” The effort capped a season that tied a then-program record with 18 wins and showcased one of the most accomplished senior classes in the nation.
