THE WINNER’S CIRCLE
On February 23, 2002, C/OF Kimmy Carter hit a ground ball RBI to give the Seminoles a 1-0 lead and eventual win over New Mexico State in the Troy Cox Classic tournament. The low-scoring, defensive outing marked Dr. JoAnne Graf’s 1,125th career win — making her the winningest coach in National Fastpitch Coaching Association (NFCA) history. The Seminoles celebrated her remarkable achievement at FSU’s home opener in March 2002. “The fact that all 1,125 wins came at my alma mater and a school I really care about is what made this special to me,” Dr. Graf said. “To get them all at one school is great because that is something that is rare these days.” Dr. Graf ended her coaching career with 1,437 wins (slow-pitch and fast-pitch), becoming the first coach to reach the 1,400-win threshold.
