THE SEABASS SPECIAL
This jersey, adorned with No. 38 and a decorated collar, belonged to one of college football’s most fearsome kickers: Sebastian Janikowski. Known for his booming leg and brash confidence, Janikowski helped redefine the value of the kicking game in the late 1990s. Born in Poland and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida, “Seabass” became a fan favorite at FSU not just for his long-range kicks, but for his larger-than-life personality — he once nailed a 53-yard field goal in a blizzard during a game at NC State. His strength was legendary; teammates joked that he could squat more than some of the linemen. As Bobby Bowden once joked, “If we were at the 40-yard line, we were already in Seabass range.” Janikowski’s impact was so memorable that even now, he remains one of only a few kickers in college football history whose name alone could electrify a stadium.
