THE CHAMPION CAPTAIN

A veteran of the 2021 National Championship team, F/M Leilanni Nesbeth won another title as a redshirt senior in 2023. Nesbeth finished with 1,617 minutes in 21 starts, showing off her durability and leadership as team captain that season. She also helped lock down opposing scorers in the middle while contributing nine points and a career-high 13 shots on goal. Nesbeth, who represented her native Bermuda in international competition while playing at FSU, earned 2023 NCAA Tournament All-Tournament Team honors for her solid work in the postseason. She enjoyed another honor following FSU’s victory over No. 3 Stanford in the College Cup Final: lighting the Unconquered spear back on campus. “We chose Leilanni because we have, obviously, 21 players on our team, several fifth year seniors. But she’s the lone young woman on this team who has been here for all five years,” said coach Brian Pensky at the National Championship celebration.
