TACKING ON ANOTHER HONOR
LB Marvin Jones Sr. needed only three seasons to show why his Seminole career was worthy of the College Football Hall of Fame. As a freshman in 1990, Jones Sr. joined an elite group of FSU defenders with a 20-tackle game against Virginia Tech. It would be one of 12 career games with double-digit takedowns. Jones Sr. followed up with back-to-back consensus All-American honors as a sophomore and junior. In 1992, he won the Lombardi Award as the nation’s top lineman and the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker, guiding the Seminoles to their first Orange Bowl victory. Jones Sr. led the team in tackles each year of his career, ultimately compiling 369 tackles, which remain in the program’s top 10 today. As the fourth overall pick of the 1993 NFL Draft, Jones Sr. spent 11 seasons with the New York Jets. The Seminoles later honored Jones Sr. by retiring his No. 55 in 2015.
