SURA WAS A SURE THING
Date: 1990s
As a true freshman in the 1991-92 season, G Bob Sura became the first player in program history to win ACC Rookie of the Year. Sura split his time coming off the bench and starting, averaging 12.3 points and 3.5 rebounds a game. His 380 total points as a freshman stood as a program record until 2015. A prospect from a small high school in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Sura was not the typical recruit for the Seminoles. “Only time will tell, but in two years I could see him being a 6-foot-5 ACC-type point guard,” said coach Pat Kennedy ahead of Sura’s first season. Kennedy’s prediction came true, as Sura became one of the greatest players in program and ACC history.
