STRAIGHT OUTTA MOORE
Date: June 5, 2018
Playing second base in Game 2 of the 2018 Women’s College World Series finals, freshman Sydney Sherrill delivered again on the sport’s biggest stage. The native of Moore, Oklahoma, finished 1-for-3 with a double as No. 6 FSU defeated No. 5 Washington, 8-3, to claim the national title. Sherrill’s performance capped a remarkable debut season in which she earned ACC Freshman of the Year, ACC Tournament MVP, First-Team All-ACC, All-Freshman and All-Tournament Team honors, along with NFCA Third-Team All-America recognition. In 2018, Sherrill hit .370 with 12 home runs and 58 RBIs — extraordinary production for a freshman — while providing steady defense and timely offense throughout Florida State’s championship run.
