SISTER SISTER
As the Seminoles prepared for their first NWIT appearance in 1982, the unthinkable happened. Star forward and leading scorer Sue Galkantas (shown here in a game against Memphis State earlier that season) was sidelined with an ankle injury picked up in practice. But as the No. 1 seed in the tournament, the Noles were determined to move forward. In their first-round game against Pepperdine, FSU breezed to a 76-63 win. In the next round, the team found an answer in another Galkantas — Nancy Galkantas, Sue’s younger sister! Nancy led the team with 18 points in a 75-71 win over BYU in the semifinals, sending FSU to their first NWIT Championship Game appearance. In the title match, Nancy again led the team with 23 points, but FSU came up short against Oregon State. It remains the deepest NWIT run in program history.
