SIMON’S MAJOR RECOVERY
Date: January 4, 2000
NG Corey Simon grinned after FSU defeated Virginia Tech, 46-29, in the 2000 Nokia Sugar Bowl to claim the National Championship. That season, Simon earned consensus All-American honors and finished fourth on the team with 84 tackles. His 21 tackles for loss far outpaced any other teammate. In the Sugar Bowl, Simon had one of FSU’s three fumble recoveries — his came on a scramble for a loose ball in the end zone, preventing a Virgina Tech touchdown. Simon was the sixth overall pick of the 2000 NFL Draft and he spent seven seasons playing professionally before a medical condition ended his career.
