SHUCKING HUSKERS IN THE FIESTA BOWL
Date: January 1, 1990
The Seminoles and Nebraska Cornhuskers had a fierce rivalry during the 1980s and 1990s, meeting eight times between the 1980 regular season and the 1994 Orange Bowl. FSU’s most dominant performance in that span came in the 1990 Sunkist Fiesta Bowl. QB Peter Tom Willis set new Fiesta Bowl records with 422 passing yards and five touchdown throws, including two touchdowns each to WR Terry Anthony and TE Reggie Johnson. The Seminoles shined brightly on defense, holding the Huskers — a team averaging over 375 rushing yards a game — to only 115 yards, along with five forced turnovers. FSU defeated Nebraska 41-17, the largest margin of victory in that span.
