SEMINOLES MEET THE BRONX BOMBERS
Date: April 5, 1978
FSU hosted the New York Yankees in an exhibition game on April 5, 1978, in Tallahassee. The Yankees, the reigning World Series champions, featured stars including Reggie Jackson, Goose Gossage and Willie Randolph. Former Seminole standout Dick Howser was a member of the Yankee coaching staff at the time and played a key role in arranging the matchup. FSU scored first and held a 4-3 lead after four innings before New York pulled away to a 10-5 victory. Yankees legend Roger Maris, then living in Gainesville, attended the game, adding to the significance of the event. Howser would return to FSU the following season as the Seminole head coach.
