SAM CAN’T MISS
In his two seasons wearing Garnet and Gold, G Sam Cassell guided the Seminoles to their deepest postseason runs in two decades. In 1992, Cassell led the team in scoring with 23 points in the first round and 19 points in the second round. He also put up 19 points in a loss to No. 2 Indiana in the Sweet 16. As a senior in the 1993 NCAA Tournament, Cassell and the Noles went even further. He was FSU’s top scorer in first- and second-round wins, and his 12 points against No. 7 Western Kentucky helped the Seminoles advance to their first Elite Eight since 1972. Cassell’s biggest tournament performance came in the 94-63 second-round win over No. 11 Tulane. He tallied 31 points with a perfect 7-of-7 on 3-pointers to set an NCAA record (since broken). “The key is intensity,” Cassell said. “I want to go out a winner.”
