ROLLING TO ANOTHER RUNNER-UP FINISH
The journey to the 2023 Women’s College World Series (WCWS) came with great competition, but No. 3 FSU was on a roll. The Seminoles entered the NCAA Tournament having won 33 out of 35 games and 16 straight, which included another ACC championship. FSU made a statement in their first postseason game as pitchers Mack Leonard and Makenna Reid tossed a combined no-hitter in a 9-0 win over Marist (suspended after five innings due to the mercy rule). After winning three of four in the Tallahassee Regional and sweeping No. 14 Georgia in the Super Regional, FSU advanced to the WCWS for the first time since 2021. The Noles shut out No. 6 Oklahoma State and defeated No. 7 Washington and No. 4 Tennessee, marking the first 3-0 start in the WCWS in program history. Although FSU came up short to No. 1 Oklahoma in the WCWS finals, the team’s winning streaks en route to the National Championship series did not go unnoticed.
