REGIONAL HIGH
Date: June 1, 1956
From the first pitch in 1948, the Seminole baseball team built a winning program from the ground up. After nearly a decade of grit and determination, FSU finally made it to the national stage, appearing in their first regional tournament in program history in 1956. The Noles were ready to face the test. Pitcher Tony Avitable brought the heat, striking out 10 and allowing only two hits in the 2-1 win over Duke in the first of a three-game series. This baseball commemorates that fateful game. Though FSU would fall in the next two games, this team set the program on the path to becoming the powerhouse it remains today.
