PROFESSIONAL HOMECOMING
Seminole fans had great expectations for G Ron King after he led FSU to the 1972 NCAA National Championship Game. But just six games into his senior season, King suffered an ankle injury that abruptly ended his 1972-73 campaign. Even with a mere 64 career games at FSU, King’s 19.6 points-per-game average remains in the top five in program history, while his 542 field goals rank in the top 20. King was granted another year of college eligibility following his injury, but he chose to go pro instead. The San Francisco (later Golden State) Warriors selected him in the fourth round of the 1973 NBA Draft, and the Kentucky Colonels selected him in the second round of the 1973 ABA Draft. The former Kentucky Mr. Basketball chose to go with his hometown team, playing 35 games in one season with the Colonels.
