ONE SWEET TOUCHDOWN
Date: January 4, 2000
Fans of the No. 1 Florida State Seminoles and No. 2 Virginia Tech Hokies celebrated the 2000 Nokia Sugar Bowl National Championship Game with commemorative pins. FSU rooters in particular enjoyed one play late in the first quarter. As Virginia Tech attempted a punt, LB Tommy Polley burst through the line to block the ball, and RB Jeff Chaney scooped and scored on a 6-yard return to give the Seminoles a 14-0 lead. Chaney’s score was the first touchdown on a blocked punt in Sugar Bowl history since 1965.
