ONE MORE CWS FOR THE ROAD
In his 40th and final season as skipper, Mike Martin led the Seminoles to one last College World Series (CWS). To get there, FSU faced host team LSU in the NCAA Super Regional. In the first game, the Noles secured a 6-4 comeback win thanks to a sacrifice fly by LF Tim Becker and a solo home run from RF/CF Reese Albert. Game 2 was a closer affair, with FSU squandering the lead before going into extra innings. In the bottom of the 12th, 3B Drew Mendoza hit an RBI single to give FSU the 5-4 win and a ticket to the CWS. It marked Martin’s 17th career College World Series appearance. “For some reason (Martin) has got something going and knows how to get us going at the right time,” Mendoza said. “This is just another example.”
