METRO CHAMPIONS AT LAST
The Seminoles had been runners-up in the Metro Conference Tournament Championship Game an astounding five times since joining the conference in 1976. In the 1990-91 season, it was finally FSU’s time. The team cruised into the tournament with a 17-10 overall record. The Noles soundly defeated South Carolina in the first round with a 65-55 win before downing Virginia Tech in the second round, 91-71. FSU then faced perennial tournament contender Louisville in the title game. The Seminoles bounced back from a halftime deficit to defeat the Cardinals 76-69, finally winning their first Metro Tournament Championship. G Derrick Myers, who played just one season for the Noles, contributed 58 assists that campaign as a reliable sixth man.
