MCCRAY IN THE MIDDLE
Date: March 25, 1972
In this action shot from the 1972 National Championship Game, Seminole C Lawrence McCray (No. 44) battled inside against UCLA’s Keith (later Jamaal) Wilkes (No. 52). A 6-foot-11, 210-pound product of Washington High School in Pensacola, Florida, McCray made an immediate impact as a sophomore during FSU’s title-game season. He recorded seven double-doubles in 1971-72, including a season-high 24 points against Houston on February 4, 1972, and 17 rebounds in the opener against Oglethorpe on December 1, 1971. Over three seasons in Tallahassee, McCray anchored the Seminole frontcourt with size, defense and rebounding, helping propel FSU to its historic run to the championship game.
