The Seminoles put up a 12-2 conference record in the 2008-09 season to take home the first ACC regular season co-championship trophy (shared with Maryland) in program history. FSU nearly claimed the trophy outright — their 72-71 loss to Maryland was as close as it got that season. Still, FSU was proud to be one of the top two teams in the country’s basketball powerhouse conference. Star F Jacina Monroe praised FSU’s increased physicality that season. “We’re more relentless,” she said. “I just think we’re willing to sacrifice more so than before. We’re diving on the floor. We’re getting scrapes, bumps, bruises, concussions, things like that. And we don’t care because we’re trying to win.”
