LATE TO THE GAME, EARLY TO GLORY
Long before he rewrote record books at FSU, J.D. Drew was just learning the game. Drew didn’t play organized baseball until age 13, developing his skills alongside his brothers and neighbors in the cow pastures near his family home in Hahira, Georgia. At Lowndes County High School, Drew emerged as a dominant offensive force. He was named the Vikings’ best offensive player all four years, earned all-regional MVP honors and was selected to the Team Georgia All-Star squad during his senior season. That late start made what followed even more remarkable. At FSU, Drew became one of the most dominant hitters in collegiate baseball history, highlighted by a rare triple-triple in a single season (1997) with 100 hits, 100 runs and 100 RBIs.
