MARTIN’S FIELD DAY
FSU opened coach Mike Martin’s final season in 2019 the same way his program had operated for decades: with precision, preparation and authority. The Seminoles allowed no hits in an 11-0 Opening Day win over Maine at Mike Martin Field, marking the first Opening Day no-hitter in program history and just the 10th overall. In 2005, FSU formally dedicated the playing field in Martin’s name, recognizing not just his wins but the culture he built within the program. The stadium itself had long been a landmark in college baseball, but the field naming cemented Martin’s legacy as inseparable from the place where generations of Seminoles competed. Reflecting on the honor, Martin said, “This place has always been about the players and the program. To have my name here is something I never imagined.”
