Malia Berkely was one of top scoring defenders of the 2018 season, notching one goal and seven assists for nine points. Her only goal of the season came on the sport’s biggest stage, facing No. 1 Stanford in the College Cup Final Four. While the No. 5 Seminoles held a narrow 1-0 lead, Berkely fired a shot from 25 yards out that tipped off the Cardinal goalkeeper’s hands and into the net. Berkely’s goal in the 42nd minute led FSU to a 2-0 victory. “I saw the keeper off her line and thought if I hit it just right, it could go in,” Berkley said. “And it did.” The win advanced FSU to the College Cup Championship Game, where they would go on to claim another title.
