GOLDEN ARM, BEST CHOICE
QB Chris Weinke had a season to remember in 2000, leading the nation with 4,167 passing yards and averaging 347.3 yards per game. Weinke enjoyed two 500-yard-passing games, against Duke and Clemson, and almost had another against Miami. Meanwhile, his 33 touchdowns set a program record that stood for 13 years. In response, Weinke received the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as the nation’s top senior quarterback. He beat out future Pro Hall-of-Famer Drew Brees, Heisman runner-up Josh Heupel and Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year Marques Tuiasosopo. “There is some very stiff competition this year, some guys who are very good. I think Chris is the best choice,” said FSU offensive coordinator Mark Richt.
